Selenium is essential for the body as an antioxidant [1]. Without selenium, the human body would not grow and multiply. The liver would not fulfill its function and essential hormones would not be produced. Selenium in this product is in the form of L-selenomethionine, which the body can utilize. It is absorbed and incorporated into body components better than any other FORM of selenium. Its excellent bioavailability has been demonstrated in several studies: selenium levels in red blood cells increased by 100% in 16 weeks when subjects are taking selenomethionine. There was no such increase with the use of selenate or selenite.

[1] antioxidant: a substance that limits or reduces the amount of free radicals. Free radicals are tiny harmful particles. Because they are free, they want to be tied to something. Therefore, they attack the cells and damage them. The cells then spill into their surroundings. Since the cells also contain substances that cause decomposition, it damages the surrounding cells.
